Converse x Minus18 Shoe Design (2021)

  • For Converse ANZ, I designed a custom pair of Converse Chuck 70’s that celebrate the fluidity and exploration of gender identity and sexuality’ in support of Minus18.

During their sale, $50 from every pair sold was donated directly to Minus18Youth to support their life affirming work for LGBTQIA+ youth around Australia.

These shoes feature two custom designed patches, about the importance of allowing space for yourself to grow as a queer person, as well as holding space for others and supporting them on their own journeys of self discovery.

Being a part of the LGBTQIA+ Community is about holding space for one another, while allowing yourself to grow, shift and change in ways you feel most comfortable.

  • Outer Patch: “HOLD SPACE FOR OTHERS”:

Illustration of a trans or gender diverse person actively supporting the LGBTQIA+ people in their life (represented by the planets, stars and colourful fluid lines). Being a part of the LGBTQIA+ Community is about embracing, caring for, and supporting those around you, no matter how they identify! It’s so important to listen, and give people space to be ‘fluid’ and express themselves the way they feel comfortable.

Image Description: A colourful circular patch of a shirtless trans person sitting down with their left leg up, knee close to their chest. They have visible pink double incision scars from top surgery on their chest, pale skin, and short, fluffy pink hair. They are surrounded by thick colourful squiggles and colourful planets, orbs and yellow stars. Their arms are outstretched, touching some of the coloured orbs.

The circle patch design has a deep purple border with text that says "HOLD SPACE FOR OTHERS".

Inner Patch: “HOLD SPACE FOR YOURSELF”:

This patch encompasses the fluidity and exploration of identity (sexuality and/or gender). Self-reflection, learning more about yourself, becoming comfortable within yourself and how you present yourself to the world.

Image Description: A colourful circular patch design of two queer peoples faces in space. They face each other, orbiting around a small blue planet. The planet has movement lines, to signify the fluidity and motion of moving through space. The person on the top left has short curly pink hair, and have two yellow stars either side of their face. The other queer person at the bottom right has short yellow hair, and has one pink star next to their face.

The background of the patch is a deep purple with a border of light blue. The border has text that says "HOLD SPACE FOR YOURSELF".
